Volunteer Support:
A major part of our programs utilize volunteers
on a daily basis to assist the participants and staff on offering
contacts and programs to our community seniors. A current listing
of volunteer needs are as follows;
- Daily Reassurance Calls - Calling homebound
participants 1-5 times each week.
- Weekly In-Home Visits - Weekly visits of an
hour each to provide our homebound participants a friendly face
to go along with the friendly voice.
- Desk Volunteers - Daily shifts available in
3 hour increments, 9:00 - 12:00 and 12:00 - 3:00 Monday through
Friday, to greet the visitors and participants and answer the
telephone.
- Instructors for Programs - Provide educational
instruction to class participants in crafts, computer use, dance,
Spanish, ceramics, painting, and many other areas.
- Transportation - Offering available transportation
to senior participants for doctor visits, therapy, grocery store
and local mall shopping trips.
Civic and Community Support:
Senior Citizens of Hendersonville receives 45%
of its funding from Federal, State, County, and City funding
along with funding from United Way of Sumner County. The balance
of our budget comes from fund raising events and local civic,
business, and community support. We have on-going programs with
churches, the medical community and local civic clubs asking
for an annual commitment for a period of 1, 3, 5, and 10 years.
This long term giving allows us to project long range growth
plans for expansion. We are also in the process of establishing
an Endowment Program for Senior Citizens of Hendersonville at
a local bank to allow individuals and businesses to make a one-time
contribution of stock, estate annuities, or cash to the endowment
program as a deductible contribution for tax purposes. This
Endowment Program furnishes a long-term legacy of support to
seniors
Membership Activity Fees:
Senior Citizens of Hendersonville has no annual
dues. We have a fee of $1.00 per week for programs on the monthly
calendar. The only separate charge at the present time is for
line dancing, payable to the instructor. Donations are readily
accepted.
If you are interested in volunteering,
participating in the Endowment Program, or contributing scholarships
please contact Senior Citizens of Hendersonville at (615) 822-8758.
